Becoming a member of Grand Strand Islamic Society means joining a community that values faith, compassion, and togetherness. As a member you gain access to resources, events, and services that deepen your connection to your faith and build real relationships with the people praying beside you. Whether you are seeking spiritual guidance, a place to belong, or a way to give back, membership is a gateway to personal growth and to collective impact on the Grand Strand.
Membership is not a gate. Every prayer, every class, and every service listed on this site is open to any Muslim who walks through the door, member or not, and nobody is ever asked for a card at the shoe rack. Membership is what lets the masjid plan a year in advance, and what gives you a formal voice in how it is run. If you would rather talk it through with a person first, call (843) 902-2808.
Five things membership actually changes.
Not a list of perks invented for a brochure. These are the five pillars the masjid has committed to, and each one describes something a member receives that a visitor does not.
Spiritual growth
Access to regular prayer services, educational programs, and religious counseling, held on a steady weekly cycle rather than whenever somebody remembers to schedule them.
That means the Tuesday and Saturday morning Quran classes, the Thursday night classes after Isha, and the imam available for a conversation about your own practice. The full weekly rhythm is on the services page.
Community connection
Participation in the events, workshops, and celebrations that bring people together, from Family Night on the third Saturday of every month to Eid gatherings and the iftars in Ramadan.
For a family new to Myrtle Beach, this is often the part that matters most. A member household is on the list, gets told what is happening, and is expected rather than merely welcome.
Exclusive access
Priority access to the services people need at the hardest moments of life: marriage ceremonies, burial arrangements, and tailored counseling.
Said plainly, when several requests land in the same week and the imam has a finite number of hours, members are served first. No Muslim is ever turned away from a janazah, and priority is about the order of the queue, never about who is allowed in it.
Charity opportunities
A direct route into the initiatives that support people in need inside our own community, both the ones announced publicly and the quiet ones that are never announced at all.
Members hear about a need early, which is usually when help is worth the most. If you would rather give than organize, the giving page is always open to everybody.
Representation
A hand in shaping the future of Grand Strand Islamic Society through member feedback and input. Representation is the pillar that separates a membership from a subscription: members are consulted on the decisions that set the direction of the masjid, and the board takes that feedback as a formal input rather than as background noise.
Members in good standing are eligible to vote at the annual general meeting as the bylaws provide, and the roster of members is the list the board writes to when a decision needs the community behind it. That is what representation means here in practice: not a suggestion box on a wall, but a named list of households the board is expected to consult. Everything from the building expansion to the school calendar is easier to get right when the people affected have already been asked.
How it works, in three steps.
Most of it happens at human speed, because a person reads every application. Nothing here needs a lawyer, an interview, or a reference.
- Apply, or claim the account you already have If you are new to the roster, fill in the short application at the bottom of this page. Tell us who is in your household and how to reach you, and the secretary takes it from there. Nothing is charged on the form and no payment is asked for on it. If the masjid already holds your details, from a previous year or from a form you filled in at the center, there is no second application to make. The office sends you a one time link by email and you set your own password on it. See the panel to the right.
- The secretary confirms your household A real person checks the details against the roster: the spelling of every name, the household you belong to, a phone number that actually reaches somebody, and whether you are recorded as individual, family, or student. This is also where the office corrects anything we had wrong. Dues are settled at this step, with the secretary, in a conversation where you can ask questions. The board is finalizing the current schedule and we will not publish a figure before they have confirmed it.
- You get member access Your own account on this website, the priority access described above for marriage, burial, and counseling, and a vote at the annual general meeting as the bylaws provide. Your record holds your tier, your household, and your dues status, and it is the record the office works from. If any of it is wrong, tell the office and we will correct it the same week.
Already on the roster?
Members whose details the masjid already holds do not sign up twice. The office emails you a message titled Claim your GSIS member account, and the link inside it lets you pick your own password.
- The link works once, and it stops working seven days after it is sent.
- You choose the password yourself. Nobody at the masjid can see what you choose.
- If the link expires before you get to it, ask for a fresh one and we will send it the same week.
Lost the email, or never got one? Call the office on (843) 902-2808 or write to [email protected]. Do not start a new application. Your account is already there, waiting, and a duplicate record only makes the roster harder to keep straight.
What the roster records. Every member has a tier, a household, a phone number, and a dues status. Households are kept together so that a family is one entry rather than five, and so that a renewal reminder goes to one inbox instead of scattering.
- Individual
- One adult member, recorded and renewed in their own name.
- Family
- A household counted as one membership, so that a couple and their children are on the roster together.
- Student
- Students studying on the Grand Strand, recognized as their own tier rather than squeezed into one of the other two.

If yours is not here, ask it. The office would far rather answer a question twice than have somebody decide not to join because they were unsure.
Who can become a member?
Anyone residing in Myrtle Beach or the nearby areas who shares our values and seeks to grow spiritually, connect with others, or support the community is welcome to join. You do not need to have been born into the faith, you do not need to have attended for years, and you do not need anybody to vouch for you.
New Muslims are particularly welcome, and the new convert program runs alongside membership rather than instead of it.
What is the cost of membership?
Membership fees vary depending on the type, individual or family, and a student rate is recorded separately. Contact us for the current dues and the payment options available to you.
We are deliberately not printing a figure on this page. The board is finalizing the dues schedule, and quoting an amount we might have to correct next month would be worse than asking you to have one short conversation with the secretary.
If the dues are a genuine difficulty for your household, say so. That conversation stays between you and the office, and it has never been the reason somebody was refused.
What services are included with membership?
Membership includes priority access to religious counseling, marriage ceremonies, burial services, and members only events, as well as discounts on certain programs.
The services page lists everything the masjid does in full, including the janazah arrangements and what they cover. Membership changes the order you are served in and the price you pay for some programs. It does not unlock a separate, better masjid.
Can I volunteer if I am not a member?
Yes. Non members are welcome to volunteer in our community outreach programs and at our events, and a good deal of what happens here runs on exactly that. Members do enjoy additional benefits and opportunities, but volunteering has never been one of the things we gate.
If you want to help, tell the office what you are good at and when you are free.
How can I renew my membership?
The membership year runs from January 1 to December 31, as the bylaws set out, and open enrollment for the coming year runs from November 15 to December 31. That is when renewals are made and dues for the new year are settled, unless the board has waived them.
You will receive a reminder with renewal instructions before your membership expires, so renewal is not something you have to remember on your own. You can renew online or in person at the center.
Because households are kept together on the roster, one reminder covers the whole family rather than arriving five times in one week.
I was a member before. Do I need to sign up again?
No. If the masjid already holds your details, an account is waiting for you and the only thing missing is a password. The office emails you a message titled Claim your GSIS member account with a one time link that lets you set one yourself.
That link works once and expires after seven days, so if yours has gone stale, nothing is wrong with your membership. Call (843) 902-2808 or write to [email protected] and we will send a fresh one. Please do not start a second application, because a duplicate record is genuinely harder to clean up than a lapsed link.
One form is all it takes to start.
Tell us who is in your household and how to reach you. The secretary reads it, confirms your details against the roster, and explains the current dues in a conversation before anybody asks you for anything. If you were a member before, say so in the form and we will send your claim link instead of opening a second record.
