Sisters have been part of Grand Strand Islamic Society since the beginning. This page is honest about what exists today and what the masjid is still confirming, so that nothing here surprises you when you walk in.

No call ahead needed for any of this. Come as you are, on any day of the week.
A private prayer space
Since Phase I of our building was completed in 2013, the masjid has included a private space set aside for the sisters. It is open for every prayer, every day.
Jumu’ah every Friday
Khutbah begins at 1:30 PM and iqamah follows at 2:00 PM. Arriving by 1:15 leaves time for parking and wudu without rushing.
Women at the heart of it
Sisters gather at Jumu’ah, at iftars, and at the family programs that run through the year. Newcomers get folded in quickly, usually over tea.
What sisters find at GSIS now
Everything on this list is running today. The last item is being built, and the interest list is how you hear about it first.
Running now
- A private prayer space, every prayer. Set aside for sisters since 2013 and open whenever the masjid is. Come in through the main entrance; anyone will point the way, and wudu and restroom facilities for sisters are inside.
- Jumu’ah every Friday. Khutbah 1:30 PM, iqamah 2:00 PM. Arrive by 1:15 to park and make wudu without rushing.
- Morning Quran class, Tuesday and Saturday after Fajr. Open to all ages and levels, sisters included. Reading, memorization and understanding, at your own pace.
- Family Night, the third Saturday of the month, after Maghrib. Children, tea, and the conversations that turn a congregation into a community.
- Sunday School for the children, 10:30 AM to 1:45 PM, and the Weekend Qur’an and Arabic School interest list for enrollment.
- Ramadan. The sisters’ coordination team runs the floor at the nightly iftars: what goes out and when, how the sisters’ section is served, and where families with small children sit. A sister coming for the first time is folded in over tea.
- New Muslim sisters. The New Convert Program matches sisters with a female mentor, without exception, for a full year.
Being built
- A sisters’ halaqah and sisters-only gatherings. The coordinator is setting the day and the rhythm now. Say you are interested and you are on the list that hears the date first; childcare arrangements are decided with that schedule.
